  1. Identify the device and connection mode. Confirm the exact mouse and whether you are setting it up over a wired, wireless, or other supported connection. Use the labels and controls shown by the software for that device. Pass condition: the intended mouse appears and responds to a basic movement or button test.
  2. Create one named base profile. Give it a clear name, such as Desktop Base, and use it for everyday work and gaming until the essential controls behave as expected. Pass condition: you can identify the active profile without relying on an unclear default name.
  3. Configure essential controls only. Set the DPI stages and their order, the polling option exposed by the app, button assignments, and any feature you need for normal use. Do not copy a universal DPI or polling recommendation. Choose values that fit your use and record them. Pass condition: each change produces the intended result on the desktop or in a test game.
  4. Save or apply the profile. Use the displayed save or apply action, then close and reopen the profile view if the app allows it. This confirms that the app accepted the profile—not that the mouse retained every setting without the app. Pass condition: the profile reappears with the settings you entered.
  5. Test before branching. Check movement, DPI switching, buttons, and any other essential control on the desktop and in the intended game. If something is wrong, change one setting at a time and record which change fixed it. Add a game profile only when its layout or behavior is materially different from the base profile, then test it separately.

Decide What Belongs in Software, Onboard Memory, or Both

Keep app-dependent behavior in the software, and move essential controls to onboard memory only when the exact model documents that feature and the persistence test passes. The three labels below distinguish the final location from the temporary status of your testing.

Treat DPI, button assignments, polling, lighting, macros, and other features as separate checks. Onboard support for one does not prove that the others persist. Keep the retained set minimal, use the base profile as your starting point, and branch only when a game needs a materially different control layout.

Creating or applying a profile in the app is different from writing settings to the mouse. If the exact model documents onboard memory, follow its device-save instructions and then use the persistence test in the next section. Without both a documented save path and an observed result, leave the setting as not tested rather than assuming that the app saved it to the device.

Verify Persistence and Startup Behavior on Your PC

Test the base profile with the app open, closed, and absent after a controlled Windows restart. Keep startup enabled only when a required feature depends on the app; do not assume that disabling startup produces a fixed performance gain.

First, test the profile with the app open. Check DPI switching, button assignments, the polling setting where the app provides a way to observe it, connection mode, and other essential behavior separately. Close the app and repeat the same checks. If one control changes, classify that control as software-dependent rather than treating the whole profile as failed.

Next, restart Windows and check whether the mouse app relaunched at sign-in before testing. An automatic relaunch shows that the app is running; it does not prove onboard persistence. Prevent the app from launching through its own setting or Windows startup controls, restart again, and repeat the essential-control checks. If the app cannot be prevented from relaunching, close it after sign-in and record that limitation instead of calling the restart test conclusive. If you have another compatible computer and the device is intended for use there, an optional second-computer test can show whether behavior is tied to the original installation. It does not establish universal portability for every profile or feature.

Inspect the software's launch setting and compare it with the startup entries and running processes on your PC. Windows lets you review startup applications in Settings > Apps > Startup or Task Manager, as explained in Windows startup controls. Disable the app's startup entry only as a test, then repeat the essential-control checks. If a required feature disappears, restore startup or keep the app available when you need that feature.

Keep one plain-text note or spreadsheet containing the mouse model, software version, connection mode, profile names, DPI stages and order, polling choice, button assignments, special actions, lighting preferences, and a separate persistence result for each essential control. Add screenshots of the profile pages and store any available app export alongside the written record rather than relying on it as the only copy.

After a reset, reinstall, or lost profile, open the software appropriate for the exact device and rebuild the base profile first. Save or apply it, then repeat the close-and-restart test before adding game-specific changes. After a device change, stop before entering the recorded settings: compare the new exact model's documentation with each recorded control. If support is absent or unclear, mark that control not tested and rebuild only the compatible subset. Do not import or apply the old profile blindly.
