Recovery and support The model manual, firmware page, or manufacturer's support channel is available if recognition or function fails. You have no model-specific recovery route and are relying on a generic reset or a file from another device.

Match the Peripheral, Revision, and Firmware Package

Confirm the hardware identity before downloading or opening a firmware file. Compare the physical label or model information with the name shown in the manufacturer's utility, the updater prompt, and the firmware page. Check the hardware revision, receiver version, or connection variant when the manufacturer distinguishes them.

For programmable keyboards, QMK's flashing instructions use the firmware filename to identify the intended keyboard and keymap. That filename pattern applies to QMK, not proprietary peripherals. QMK also documents bootloader-specific flashing methods, so use the affected device's own procedure rather than copying a command from another model.

An updater completion message is not enough by itself. Confirm that the utility recognizes the peripheral and displays the firmware state or completion result available in its interface, then test the functions you depend on before returning to normal use.

For a keyboard, test important inputs and confirm that key behavior and essential profiles or mappings are present. QMK's flashing instructions also direct users to test important inputs after flashing; that example does not define a universal test for every keyboard. For a mouse, test the functions you rely on and the connection mode prescribed by its utility or instructions.

Use the normal device software workflow to restore or reselect a saved profile if the utility supports that action. Keep the backup, notes, error details, and update information until the peripheral is recognized and its important functions work. If recognition or basic operation fails, stop normal use and move to the recovery route.

If the Update Fails, Follow the Official Recovery Path

Treat a failed or unrecognized update as a stop-and-document event. Do not use unofficial firmware files, random reset combinations, or commands copied from another device. Bootloader and recovery behavior vary by model, so use the affected peripheral's manufacturer procedure.

Record the exact error, device model and revision, connection mode, updater or utility version, what happened immediately before the failure, and whether the device is recognized in any supported mode. Keep this record with the update information so you do not repeat an action that may have changed the device state.

Reconnect or retry only when the recovery instructions require it, using their specified cable, receiver, power arrangement, or mode.
